In Memory Of
Matthew J. Knight
1973 - 2021

Matthew James Knight age 48, was born in Ottawa, KS on Monday, September 17, 1973 to Wayne L. and Thelma J. Knight. He passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, in Olathe, KS.

He attended school in Ottawa graduating with the Class of 1992. He attended Johnson County Community College and Washburn University in Topeka, KS majoring in Criminal Justice. While attending Washburn, he met the love of his life, Penny Drosselmeyer. Matt and Penny married May 2nd, 1998 and had 23 blessed years of marriage. They were truly best friends.

On September 1, 2000, they were overjoyed to welcome their son, Reece Braeden.

The family made their home in Olathe where Matt started his career in Public Safety with Sprint and Centurylink where he was a National Sales Engineer.
In January 2011, Matt joined the team at Spatial Data Research. He knew that SDR was the place for him to make an impact in the Public Safety industry. After working at SDR for 3 years, he became part owner of the company. He was Vice President and the Director of Marketing and Sales.
Matt was the Commercial Liaison for the Missouri Public Safety Communications Conference and was a board member for MOAPCO and MONENA. He also served on the Oklahoma Technical Board.

Matt had many hobbies he enjoyed doing with family and friends. The lake was his favorite place to be, out on the water enjoying fishing and boating. Matt had a 1979 Ford F100 as a teenager and always wanted another classic vehicle. He found “Gabriella”, a 1940 Ford Deluxe and started his new love affair. Matt learned to work on classic vehicles with Reece and working every Tuesday night at “The Truck Ranch” with his friends. Matt, Penny and Reece spent many weekends going to car shows.

He loved to play cards and would never pass up a good game of Phase 10, regardless of the fighting that might ensue!

Matt was proceeded in death by his Maternal Grandparents Una and Ted Prost, Paternal Grandparents Bill and Anna May Knight, his Mother Thelma Knight, his dear Aunt Melva Smith and his Father-In-Law Don Drosselmeyer.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Penny, his son Reece, his father Wayne Knight Sr., his brothers Wayne Knight Jr. and family, Bill Knight and family, his mother-in-law Peggy Drosselmeyer and his sister-in-law Kristl Matthew and family and many nieces and nephews. Matt is also survived by the most incredible friends who he called family.

In words from Matt:
When it’s over, live your best life, happy and hopefully with some incredible memories. Remember, I had an Incredible Life here with you.
