Mary Ann Schaeffer
1932 - 2021

Mary Ann was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward B. (Rapley) Pauley and Minnie Una
(Evans) Pauley. She had a younger brother, Edward Pauley (Sonny), who predeceased
her.

Mary Ann lived in Clinton, Missouri and Lawrence, Kansas as a girl, graduating from
Lawrence High School. She met Jack Schaeffer, who was a student attending KU. He
wrote love letters to her while he was spending the summer in Idaho fighting fires. They
were married in Lawrence on December 28, 1952.

After marriage Mary Ann and Jack lived in Topeka, Kansas, where their oldest daughter,
Janae, was born. A few years later they moved to Emporia, Kansas where they lived for
sixty years. Their daughter, Jill, and their son, Fred, were born in Emporia.

Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mother for many years, then went back to college,
graduating from KSTC (now ESU). She subsequently worked as a real estate agent at
Farm and Home where she helped clients find their dream homes. In 2018, she and
Jack moved to Kansas City, where their daughters lived.

Mary Ann loved to travel and went on many trips with Jack and her sister-in-law
Barbara. She traveled to Africa several times, South America, Europe and China. She
also enjoyed bridge club and loved her bridge club friends. She was a member of PEO
club GTO and cherished her PEO sisters.

She is survived by her three children: Janae Schaeffer (Stan Williams), Jill Hayden
(Dallas), and Fred Schaeffer. She is survived by four grandchildren: Lauren White
(Dan), Austin Hayden (Stephanie), Kelsey Huston (Doug) and Ben Schaeffer. She is
survived by six great-grandchildren: Franklin White, Sullivan Jack White, Tucker
Huston, Tenley Huston, Hannah Hayden and Hallie Hayden. She is also survived by a
sister-in-law, Marilyn Pauley, and a nephew, Evan Pauley.

Mary Ann will be interred in the chapel of Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas,
beside her husband Jack and where her mother, father and brother are also interred.
