In Memory Of
Patricia Ann Bloemker
1946 - 2021

Patricia Ann "Patty" Barba was born on October 22, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Rose Barba. She attended St. John’s school in Kansas City and graduated from Glennon High School in 1964. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri Kansas City and held a Masters in Education from MidAmerica Nazarene University.

Patty married her husband Bill on June 23, 1979, and they enjoyed over 42 years together until her passing on September 7, 2021. They were devoted to each other and considered themselves to be among the most fortunate of people to have found and loved each other. They had lived in Olathe since 1980.

She had three children: Francine Taylor (Corey), Tony Merlo (Amy), and Elizabeth Bloemker, each of who gave her much joy and of whom she was extremely proud. She was a loving and caring wife and mother, whose loss is deeply felt by her family. She was a wonderful, faithful and tolerant person who will be missed by many, including both life-long friends and those whom she was fortunate to meet and gain as friends over the years.

She was a dedicated and highly gifted teacher for five decades in parochial schools in both Missouri and Kansas and in the Shawnee Mission School District. She was a positive and guiding influence upon hundreds of students, a fact that gave her much satisfaction and in which she could justifiably take great pride.

Travel was a long standing interest of hers, and she and Bill were able to visit many destinations in North America, Latin America and Europe. However, her most consuming interest was her family, whose welfare and happiness were never far from her thoughts.

Patty is survived by her husband, her three children and two granddaughters: Lauren Taylor and Alawna Simmons, all of Olathe. She is also survived by her two sisters, Phyllis Costanza of Independence, Missouri and Rose Linda Barba of Kansas City.

Those who knew her will recognize that Patty left the world a better place through her love, kindness, and positive presence. Patty was a truly good person.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 6-8pm on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Catholic Charities, 333 E Poplar St A, Olathe, KS 66061.
