Edna Mae Rouse
1934 - 2021

Edna M. Rouse passed away peacefully on April 24, in Lenexa, KS.

She was born Sept. 30, 1934, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Walter and Ila Afinow. After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1952, she married Rick Bergstrand, and they had two children, Richard and Sherry. Her second marriage was to Warren Rouse in 1963. Warren’s career in retail resulted in numerous moves across the county. While in Kansas City in 1973, Edna attended the nursing program at Johnson County Community College, graduating in 1975. Her nursing degree and subsequent career was an accomplishment in which she took great pride. She retired after 30 years. Edna freely shared her compassionate nursing care with family, friends, and her beloved dogs and cats.

Edna and Warren chose to retire in Ruidoso, NM. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed word puzzles, travel, fitness, and in later years, painting pictures. Her family was always a great source of joy to her. She moved to Kansas City in 2017 to be near family.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard A. Bergstrand (Gayle), her daughter, Sherry Smith (Randy), four grandchildren, Mitchell and Spencer Bergstrand, Byron and Helen Smith, and one great grandchild, Ryker Bergstrand.

Cremation has been effected. A celebration of life will be held in May in Ruidoso, NM.
