Cherie Anne Hawk
1950 - 2021

Cherie Anne (Cave) Hawk , 70, of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of January 22, 2021, surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 23, 1950 to Ulysses Taylor, Jr. and Anne Marie (McAlister) Taylor in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Parkway High School in Chesterfield, MO and attended UMKC majoring in English.

She married Doug Clements in 1970, and welcomed her son, Jason Taylor Clements, in 1971 in Kansas City, MO. Cherie later met and married Cecil Keith Cave, in 1975, and became a stepmother to his daughter Laurie. Keith and Cherie then had two twin daughters, Erin and Erica, born in Naperville, IL in 1977.

She was fortunate to be able to retire in 1993 from Navistar International. Cherie and her husband Keith enjoyed spending time at The Lake of the Ozarks and traveling between Arizona, Kansas City and The Lake. She was an amazing care giver to Keith for many years prior to his passing in 2006.

In 2009 Cherie married her long time dear friend Eldon Hawk, on her birthday, June 23, at The Lake of the Ozarks. They celebrated surrounded by friends and family in one of their favorite places, The Lake, where many family memories were made over the years. Cherie loved being on the water, from sailing in the Caribbean, to hours of coving out and Lake boating fun.

Cherie loved to make a house a home, spend time with her friends and family, travel, read, research, cook and bake for all – our favorites were her Banana Cream Pie and Chocolate Mousse. Truly, any meal she touched was enjoyed by everyone in the family. She made a ‘Cherie’s Favorites’ cookbook for each child, to hand down her recipes for generations to come. She was an amazing seamstress; there was nothing she couldn’t do. She played a mean game of Scrabble and enjoyed singing in harmony with her beautiful sisters, Wendy and Shelly. Cherie was whip smart and always two steps ahead of most, we will miss her bright mind and warm heart.

She is survived by her loving husband Eldon Hawk and his daughter Nicole Lawrence, her step daughter Laurie O’Keefe and her husband Mike (Kansas City, MO); son Jason Clements and wife Debbie (Columbus, OH); daughter Erica Mogannam (Cave) and husband Maher (Walnut Creek, CA) and daughter Erin Cave (Santa Fe, NM). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Haley Lidji (Vondemkamp) and husband Nick, Paige Vondemkamp and fiancé Kelly Whaley (Dallas, TX); Holden and Liam O’Keefe (Kansas City, MO); Natalie Clements and fiancé Michael Kilmer, Josie Clements (Columbus, OH); and Sam and Sienna Mogannam (Walnut Creek, CA). She is also survived by her two sisters, Shelly Beard (Littleton, CO) and Wendy Ellis (Richmond, VA), and brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by Cecil Keith Cave, spouse, Ulysses Taylor Jr., father, and Anne Taylor, mother.
A private family service will be held at Aubry Cemetery in Stilwell, KS. The family would like to thank her doctor, Dr. John Dunlap, for his many years of care, as well as the nurses and caregivers through Kansas City Hospice and Home Care Assistance for the support they provided.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kansas City Hospice, Agatha Amani House or the Scleroderma Foundation. Please state in memory of Cherie Hawk so we may honor your donation.
