In Memory Of
Rory M. Haug
1993 - 2020

Gregory “Rory” Haug Jr.

27, of Zionsville, Indiana and Olathe, Kansas, a beloved son, brother, grandson and father, passed away to soon on October 9, 2020. He was born July 30, 1993 in Heidelberg, Germany, the son of Gregory Sr. and Michelle (Whittaker) Haug.

As the son of a career military service member “Army Brat”, Rory touched many lives in the multiple communities he lived in throughout his life. He lived in Heidelberg, Germany; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Fort Drum, New York; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Riley, Kansas. His final military move was to Olathe, Kansas, where he entered into high school. Rory enjoyed moving and meeting people, but always hated to leave his friends.

Rory was a boy scout, an artist, fun loving and funny, loved chess, reading, history and especially sports. He was an athlete who played soccer, football, wrestled and weightlifted. In high school, he played football and wrestled, but ultimately decided to focus his full attention on wrestling. He placed at state his junior year and as a senior was crowned a 6A State Wrestling Champion in 2012.

He graduated from Olathe North High School in 2012 and went on to attend college at Johnson County Community College and Kansas State University. He later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, to be with his family. While in Indiana Rory worked on several projects in the construction field.

He was an avid football fan and especially loved watching his favorite teams play, Kansas State, Indianapolis Colts and especially “The Chiefs”. Watching them win the Super Bowl, with his family, was a very special moment that they will always treasure.

Rory is survived by his beautiful little boy, Gregory M. Haug, III “R.J”; parents Gregory Sr. and Michelle; brother, Nicholas Haug of Zionsville; sister Alexandria Whittaker-Illing and brother-in-law Phillip Illing, of Gaiberg, Germany; grandparents: William and Darlene Haug of Topeka, Kansas; Oma and Opa Larry and Gabriele Whittaker of Monticello, Minnesota; aunt, Becky Schrick (Don and family) of Mooney Creek, Kansas; aunt, Jackie Anuszewski (Kenneth “Ski”) of Harker Heights, Texas; uncle, Billy (Ann and family) of Topeka, Kansas; uncle, Steve (Belinda and family) of Topeka, Kansas; uncle, Grant (Orin) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; mother of his son, Cindy Alvarez (and family) of Zionsville, Indiana; bonus son, Grey Alvarez (grandparents Lethi and Gabriele) of Zionsville, Indiana; and dearest friend, Kelsey Hamel of Shawnee, Kansas; and so many of our close family friends.

He is preceded in death by an aunt, Nanette Whittaker, who was there to welcome him into heaven. We will see them both again, just not yet.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 18, 2020 form 2:00 -3:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Zionsville, 105 West Pine Street, Zionville, IN 46077. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan – Zionsville. Rory will return home to Kansas where another visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel, 14275 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas, 66062 on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel and Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park, Kansas immediately after the ceremony.
