John Vernon "Rocky" Bates
1949 - 2020
A graduate of Bishop Ward High School and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam war. John was an avid hunter who’s most recent pastimes were spent playing with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bates; children, Sean (Elizabeth) Bates and Kathleen (Ross) Palermo; grandchildren, Olive, Desmond, and James; his siblings and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Regina and Elmer.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe. Masks will be required at both the visitation and the service. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either the Gary Sinise Foundation or to the University of Kansas Health System NICU.
