Dr. Y.W. Kim, 90, of Overland Park, KS passed Sept. 2, 2019.

Yong was born December 26,1928 in Seoul Korea to Woo Pyung Kim and In Sill Oh. After growing up in Yosu Korea and Manchuria China, he attended the Tokyo Second Metropolitan High School. He then entered the Seoul University Medical School, to avoid being drafted into the Japanese Army during World War II. After graduating and passing the South Korean Medical Board exams in 1949, he practiced and trained at Seoul University Hospital. He came to the U.S. in 1950 to work as an intern at the Alexandria (Virginia) Hospital. He decided to get a medical doctorate from a U.S. University, transferring to the KU Medical School in 1952.

He became a US citizen on June 8, 1960. Yong had a long and distinguished career practicing medicine in Kansas City, Osawatmie, Concordia and Topeka Kansas. Following his retirement from active practice in 2006 he became a Kansas State Medical Examiner until 2008.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Stella Kim, in 2015.

He is survived by his four children; Byron ( wife Debra Kim), Deborah Fulkerson, David (wife Cyndy) Kim and Leysa Kim and Nine grandchildren; Miles Kim, Allison (husband Andrew) Fonk, John Fulkerson, Sarah Fulkerson, Ryan (wife Elizabeth) Kim, Scott Kim, Aaron Amador (wife Madi), Elyzabeth Amador, and Olivia Amador.
