William "Hal" Harrell Johnson, Jr., most recently of Olathe, Kansas, passed away March 21, 2026.   Hal was born and raised in Southern Pines, NC.

 Hal traveled coast-to-coast, supporting himself with interesting odd jobs, before settling down in Sheridan, Wyoming with his life-long partner, Julie (Grassel) Johnson.  Hal and Julie moved to Richmond, Virginia, where they pursued careers in education and dental hygiene, and started their family, Leslie Ann, Susan Lee, and Will Harrell; all born in Richmond.  They then moved their young family to Fergus Falls, MN in 1992, where Hal taught history and economics at Fergus Falls High School, and Julie worked as a dental hygienist with Drs. Greenagel and Rude.

Hal and Julie retired to Castle Hayne, NC in 2014 for three years of coastal pleasure before moving to Olathe, KS where Hal spent five years working in the Blue Valley School District as an elementary day custodian.  He is survived by his wife, Julie, daughters Leslie of Fargo, ND, Susan  of Moorhead, MN, (Tyler) and their two children, Milo and Asher, son, Will of Olathe, KS (Amy) and their three children, Leo, Cora and Margot, and Hal's sisters, Julie V. Johnson of Seven lakes, NC, and Barbara Bowman of Winston-Salem, NC. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H and Mary Spencer  Johnson. 

At his request, no services will be held.
