Waldemar "Wally" Schwendtke
March 29, 1939 - June 2, 2024
Waldemar (Wally) Schwendtke passed away unexpectedly at the age of 85, on June 2, 2024, with family by his side. Wally was born on March 29, 1939, in Germany.
After the war in 1952, when Wally was 13 years old, he along with his family boarded a ship for America and then a long train ride across the US to Washington State. Within a few years his family moved to Granite Falls, WA and started dairy farming.
Wally graduated in 1959 from Granite Falls High School.
Wally stayed on the farm and was a dairyman and then raised beef cattle until he retired.
After the passing of his first wife (Hertha), Wally was blessed with a second love when he met and married Linda and became an instant dad to three grown children. They were married 43 years and were rarely apart.
While on the farm, Wally (known as Opa) loved spending time with his grandkids when they came to visit, giving tractor rides, feeding calves, making hay forts and teaching them how to work hard and get dirty.
After retirement, Wally and Linda relocated to Olathe Kansas to live near their daughter and family.
After moving to Kansas Wally enjoyed volunteering (mainly with Mission Southside), gardening, participating in church activities, attending grandkid's sporting events, and musical performances and taking numerous trips that he couldn't do when he was farming. He also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and tinkering with clocks. Wally could repair anything with homemade parts and was helpful and kind to everyone he met.
Wally is preceded in death by his mother and father (Natalie & Gustav Schwendtke), his brothers Arthur, Gustav, and Siegfried and his first wife Hertha Schwendtke.
Wally is survived by his wife Gerlinde (Linda) Schwendtke, sons Richard Dubs (Candy) and Ronald Dubs, daughter Marianne Clark (David), sister Lucie Heise, and brother Horst Schwendtke (Kathy).
He is also survived by his Grandchildren, Ronnie, James, Ryan, Kyle, Lindsey, Victoria, Alexandria and Zachariah and numerous Great Grandchildren, Nieces & Nephews.
