Twyla Lee Savereide Plumb

Twyla Lee Savereide Plumb, a devoted mother and grandmother, proud nurse and cherished friend, passed away on March 28, 2026 at 88 years of age. She was born on January 20, 1938 to Arthur H. and Luella S. Savereide in Harlan, Iowa. She was the youngest of four girls in the family and was very close to her sisters for her entire life. All four shared a love of music.

Twyla graduated from Harlan High School in 1956. During her high school years she was involved in several extracurricular activities and in the Order of the Rainbow for girls. After High School Twyla worked at the Shelby County State Bank for two years. She then joined the freshman nursing class at Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha. She received her RN in October, 1961.

On March 11, 1961 she and Ronald E. Plumb were married. They had one beautiful daughter, Peri Anne Plumb. Twyla immensely enjoyed being a mother to Peri Anne and a grandmother (Nana) to three precious grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All of them were avid Kansas Jayhawk basketball fans.

Ron’s career took the family to several states over the years: Nebraska, Georgia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and Kansas. During that time Twyla enjoyed working as a nurse. Twyla had a remarkable ability to make lifelong friends wherever she lived. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Ron, Twyla and Peri Anne moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1977 where Twyla built another wonderful community of friends. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, bowling, quilting and shopping. She continued her dedicated work at Olathe Medical Center until she retired in 2012, after 35 years at OMC and 50 years overall in nursing. Twyla loved nursing and was very proud to talk about her experiences as a nurse.

Twyla had three grandchildren who she adored, Amy Leigh Rogers, Kathleen Anne Savereide and Christopher David John. Amy gave Twyla two great grandchildren, Kaci Anne and Boston Scott Rogers.

Twyla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two of her sisters, Marianne Pauley (and husband Richard) of Lincoln, Nebraska and Dorothy Norgaard of Harlan, Iowa. She is survived by her daughter, Peri Anne Marquardt, 3 grandchildren, Amy, Katie and Chris, 2 great grandchildren, Kaci and Boston, one sister, Patty Pedersen of New Berlin, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews and many friends, all of whom were touched by her warm and caring nature.

A celebration of life will be held at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, Kansas on April 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Her ashes will be buried at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. Our family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
