Thomas Gerard Hevener, 73, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025. He was born on September 14, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri to Verla and Dorothy (Mandl) Hevener. He was the youngest child and had a sister, Wanda and brother Robert.
Tom grew up in Kansas City, MO. He attended Guardian Angels Catholic School through 8th grade and went on to Westport High School graduating in 1971. After graduation he followed in his brother’s footsteps and began an electrician apprenticeship at Local IBEW 124 in Kansas City, MO, retiring in 2005. He remained a lifelong member of the union and received his 50 year gold watch earlier this year. He was an avid sports fan loving the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and KU Jayhawks. He enjoyed researching family history and worked extensively on the family tree. He loved 60’s music, especially The Beatles and always said current music would never live up to The Beatles. He enjoyed season tickets to Starlight Theater for 30 years with his wife, Diane until it was too hard to walk. Favorite trips were numerous cruises to the Caribbean, Colorado, Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore. His greatest joy was marrying Diane on a cold snowy day December 1994 and had a loving marriage for almost 31 years. Together they built a family of dogs and cats that brought so much joy to him.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Diane Hevener, brother Robert Hevener, nephews Matt Guild (Karen), Bobby Hevener (Suzanne), nieces Phylis Morris (Greg), Nancy Fox (Don), several great nephews and great nieces, and great great nephews, and his beloved dogs Betsy and Bailey and cats Maggie and Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Verla and Dorothy and his sister Wanda.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:00-10:00am on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, with the memorial service following at 10:00am.
