Listen to Obituary

Thomas Patrick Gibbs,79,of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on January 16, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Diana Gibbs, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Sedalia, Missouri, Tom was the son of George and Kathleen Gibbs. He graduated from Smith Cotton High School and the University of Central Missouri with a degree in business and spent his career in sales with Avery Label Company before going on to own his own business, Diversified Label Company.

Tom was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society. Known for his kindness and generosity, he was a loyal friend who was always the first to step in when someone needed help. A true “MacGyver” at heart, Tom could cobble just about anything together and make it work—even if it wasn’t a perfect fix.

He was a devoted fan of all things Mizzou and rarely missed a football or basketball game. His favorite team was the undefeated 1994 Missouri basketball team led by Melvin Booker. Tom also loved sitting outside on the deck—at home or at the lake house—listening to the Royals games. Nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren; he was always the first to ask about their games and activities and attended everything he possibly could.

Tom had a deep fascination with family history and especially enjoyed visiting the Nicholas Gibbs Log Cabin in Corryton, Tennessee. His family’s Civil War roots were a constant source of interest and pride.

Stubborn in the best way, Tom fought cancer with determination and strength until the very end. He never gave up—his body simply gave out.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Gibbs; his son, Patrick Gibbs (Jennifer), his daughter, Anna Seher; his grandchildren, Brynn and Colin Gibbs, and Austin, Evan, Colby, and Taylor Seher; his son, Theron Twenter and his brother Terry Gibbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Kathleen Gibbs.
