Listen to Obituary

Tamara ‘Tammy’ Ann (Doehrman) Megles, 62, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Tammy was born to Ann and Will Doehrman in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana with her older brother, Doug. Tammy attended North Central High School in Indianapolis and would later choose to room with her close friend, Tina Darling, at IU.

Tammy attended Indiana University in Bloomington where she spent her time learning about herself and connecting to those around her. Tammy was known for her love for fun – Tina and friends would even convince her to stay the summer in Bloomington, helping her get a job at Chi-Chi’s where she eventually was introduced to her husband, Ed. Tammy and Ed would move to Indianapolis a few years later where their love for fun continued, becoming regulars in Broad Ripple, season ticket holders for Hoosier Football, and hosts of the almost-famous Indianapolis 500 party. Tammy and Ed wed on October 17, 1987 among friends and family in Indy. The pair found joy attending concerts of Tammy’s favorite artists, notably Paul McCartney, John Mellancamp, and Dave Mathews Band, among others.

Later on, Tammy and Ed were relocated by Farmers Insurance to Columbus, Ohio and made friends with the Abbotts and Jones’ families. Quickly, Tammy and Ed began their adoption journey with Brian and Heidi Abbott as sponsors. The couple welcomed their daughter, Jordan Tara Marie, in January 1997 and their son, Carson Michael Gage, in April 2000. In the summers, the family would spend time at Crooked Lake in Angola, Indiana alongside friends and family enjoying sunshine, fresh air, and quality time.

After 10 years in Columbus, Tammy was offered an opportunity to venture west to Kansas City. Tammy decided to “retire” and devote her time to raising her children, becoming the foremost expert in Thomas the Train builds, Guitar Hero, and being the neighborhood ‘Cookie Mom’ for Girl Scouts. Once the kids reached school age, Tammy chose to use her extra time and gift of connection to support students with special needs as a paraprofessional in the Olathe School District. She then would transition to supporting Parents As Teachers, helping young parents learn to connect with their own kiddos during the early years of life.

Tammy and Ed built their first home in Spring Hill in 2014. Weeks later, by random chance, the couple would learn that Brian and Heidi Abbott were moving in next door. The friends would reconnect, spending time together on the porch, watching the sunset, listening to music and discussing the ebbs and flows of life.

In recent years, Tammy spent her time enjoying slow days at home with Tucker, her labradoodle, reading books, and putting puzzles together. She spent time caring for her parents, husband, and kids, while always finding a reason to crack a joke and get others to laugh.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Ed; her children, Jordan and Carson; her parents, Ann and Will Doehrman; her brother, Doug Doehrman; brothers and sisters in law, Laura and Ry Taliaferro, Dave Bierbaum, Jim and Kath Megles; nephews, Josh Megles and Greg Beirbaum and families, as well as countless extended family members , friends, colleagues, and students. May her memory be a blessing.
