Steven Michael Galaz

July 1, 1986 — October 5, 2022

Steven "Steve" Michael Galaz, 36, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. He was born on July 1, 1986, in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Sergio and Josephine Galaz.

Steve was into scouting, where he enjoyed numerous camping retreats and outdoor activities. He played T-ball, little League baseball, football, and soccer in his younger years. Steve has a passion during his middle school years for playing Jazz on his trumpet. He dabbled in electric guitar, but his musical inspiration was in his electric piano, which was all self-taught. You would find him lost in his music.

Steve graduated from Olathe North and attended JCCC to study a trade in electrician. After the first real spark, he said enough is enough and went on to other interest. Steve had a genuine passion and love for cooking. Again self-taught, he made the family some incredible get-together meals. As a chef, Steve's best experience was cooking for a retirement community during the Covid pandemic. He found joy in serving and getting to know the residents in the facility. Continuing his service in the community, Steve started working for Catholic Charities where he made friends in his workplace and with his costumers. On one occasion, he was called a hero and gentleman for saving a co-worker during her time in need.

Steve's incredible sense of humor kept the family laughing throughout any gathering. Some of the strange phases he mentioned kept us on our toes. He was always the first one to show up to help make the meals with his culinary knives, tips, tricks and jokes to get the party started. He on one occasion had brought half of a smoke hog to share.

Steven's hobbies included skeet and rifle shooting. He collects early 1900s antique books and knives made of flint chips, stone, and Damascus steel. His favorite time of year was when he could set off fireworks for the family on the Fourth of July.

He consistently took part in the yearly Heartland Church's "Meal from the Heart," where he encouraged the family to outperform the year before. Steve has a generous, loving, and compassionate heart. His giving heart is what we will miss the most.

Steve is survived by his parents, Sergio Galaz, Sr., and Josephine Galaz; sister, Jamie Carpenter, and her husband Kelly; brother Sergio Galaz Jr and wife Monica. Steve leaves behind two nieces, Amelie and Coraline and two nephews, Anthony and Michael. Numerous cousins and aunts and uncles.

A memorial service for Steve will be held at Heartland Community Church located at 12175 South Strang Line Road in Olathe Kansas on Friday 11:00 am, October 28, 2022.
