Ruth Mae Harrison, 91, passed away on June 12th, 2026. She was born April 3rd, 1935, in Mound City, Kansas. She graduated from Mound City High School in 1952.
She and her late husband Claud were owners and operators of the Harrison Machine Shop and Welding until Claud's passing in 2014. At that time, her sons Bruce and Monte Harrison took over the family business.
Ruth was an independent, resourceful, active, and energetic person. She was truly a woman that wore many hats. Even in her retirement, she sought work to fill her days with a sense of purpose.
Along with the many jobs she held, she took time to contribute to volunteering. Ruth spent many years as an Ambassador for the Olathe Medical Center. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and the 1973 past President of the League of Scottish Rite Women.
One of her fondest memories was her time spent with her late husband, Claud, walking the sandy beaches of Florida, where they spent the winter months. During that time Ruth would collect seashells and use her enterprising skills to make seashell lamps and sell them to Florida gift shops.
She recently became a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe, Kansas. She was a devoted Christian and seldom missed Sunday morning services.
Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband Claud E. Harrison; her parents Stacey and Ruth Furse; twin brother Stacey Furse; and sister Maxine Breuel.
She is survived by her three sons, Craig Harrison (Brenda), Bruce Harrison (Sue), and Monte Harrison. Ruth is also survived by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved and was very devoted to.
Services for Ruth will be held on Thursday, June 25th at Penwell-Gabel Olathe Chapel, 14275 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS, 66062. The visitation will be from 3:00 - 4:00 pm, with the memorial service beginning at 4:00 PM. Graveside services will be held privately.
