Roy Clement Emerson, 69, of Olathe, Kansas, died on June 23, 2026, at Olathe Medical Center, after a long period of poor health.
Roy was born to Percy Abbott Emerson and Doris Marie (Allison) Emerson in Topeka, Kansas on September 19, 1956. He grew up in Topeka, Marysville, and Olathe, Kansas, graduating from Olathe High School in 1974 as co-valedictorian.
He attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, graduating in 1984 with a B.A. degree in Computer Science.
He worked in computer-related jobs in Austin, Texas and the Washington D.C. area, before returning to Olathe.
When his mother developed Alzheimer’s Disease in the mid-1990’s, he was a devoted care giver, and after her death he continued to live with and care for his father.
Roy and his dad loved going to auctions, as much for the kibitzing as for the buying, and could be found at Gold River Auction in Olathe most Saturdays for many years. They particularly loved to by “leftovers”, so Roy also had multiple antique mall booths over the years to pass on some of what he found.
Roy was a wide-ranging reader, with a special interest in World War II history, and a kind-hearted and compassionate man.
He is survived by his sister, Lisa Emerson, of Olathe, and numerous cousins.
He requested that there be no memorial service. Donations in his memory may be made to:
Starfish Project Foundation, 16175 W. 135th Street, Olathe, KS 66062 or online at starfishproject21.org.
