Robert (Bob) P. Devins

Bob Devins, 77, of Lenexa, KS died at his home on June 13, 2026.

Bob was born in Hot Springs, AR to Earl “Joe” and Jane Devins. Son of a service man, they moved around a lot, and he graduated from high school in Oklahoma. Bob joined the service out of high school and was a member of the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam. Upon his return, he met Cheryl in Washington DC. Cheryl’s mom would comment that she knew he was “the one” from the moment she met him. They were married March 27, 1971. They started their family with the birth of their son, Sean, in 1972, and their son, Mike, in 1977. They moved from Erie, PA to Casper, WY in 1986 beginning a 39-year sales career. He moved from Casper, WY to Lenexa, KS in 1993. No matter the industry, Bob had a strong work ethic and was dedicated to his craft. He was a master salesman that cared deeply about his clients and developed strong relationships with everyone he worked with.

His granddaughter, Ella, was the apple of his eye and he loved spending time with her. Due to her disability, Cheryl and Bob were her after school and summer care givers during her school years. Bob always greeted her every morning and walked her out to the car every night. He was always concerned about her safety, making sure she lifted her feet and didn’t get ahead of herself when trying to walk. They were thick as thieves. She would snuggle up with him, and he would give her massages and rub her feet. We always said that Grammie is #1, but Grandpa was definitely #2. She is going to miss him so much.

Bob had a larger-than-life personality that pulled people in. He loved to laugh and was always joking around with his family and coworkers. He loved sky diving and taking risks. He was very bummed when he aged out of being able to solo jump and wasn’t about to go tandem. Bob was an avid sports fan, always checking out whatever game was on, but was especially dedicated to Penn State, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Royals. If you walked into the house, chances are there was a game on. If there wasn’t a game on, then it was an old western or some National Geographic history documentary. He loved World War II history. He was an avid reader and represented his local library well. He was a music lover, through and through, and very eclectic in his choices. From Motown (esp. The Temptations), Franki Valli, Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Hall and Oats, Tears for Fears, he loved them all. He had a special love of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.

Bob enjoyed a good meal. He loved talking about food. Always wanted to know where you had eaten and what you had. He loved chicken wings and was always in pursuit of the perfect small and crispy wing with good ranch dressing. He loved raw oysters and he and Mike would scour the metro looking for the freshest ones. Nothing was better than a good fish fry of Lake Erie perch. He enjoyed a nice bottle of red wine or a crisp clean vodka martini. He loved a good dessert and raved about his daughter-in-law’s rum cake.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Jane, and his brother, Michael. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cheryl; children, Sean (Janel) and Mike, and his granddaughter, Ella; siblings, Bill (Betty) and Becky (Glenda); and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob wanted to be cremated and did not want a service. So, to celebrate his memory, we ask that you share a great meal with your loved ones and raise a glass in his honor. He was all about love and family. Build those memories and cherish each other.
