Richard Wayne Summers, 78, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on March 26, 2026.
He was born on March 9, 1948, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He is known and remembered in his life as a beloved son, husband, and father who loved his country.
Richard graduated from the Seminole School District in 1966, then attended Oklahoma State University before he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the US Navy at the age of 19. He completed 6 years of service, receiving the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and an honorable discharge in 1973.
If you ask those who knew Richard best, they will tell you the service never really ended. He brought the same dedication home: to his family, his community, and over twenty years of service to Dome Pipeline. He was a simple man who loved God, his country, his friends, and family most of all.
Richard most of all loved visiting his mother in Oklahoma, reading, watching his favorite sports teams on TV, get togethers with his friends, and having fun with his daughter Lindsey and two grandchildren Trey and Carina for their celebrations, activities, and holidays.
He is survived by his mother Hazel Summers (Seminole, Oklahoma), his wife Carlene Summers (Olathe, Kansas), his daughters Lindsey Summers (Parkville, Missouri) and Marcie Hunnicutt (Dayton, Ohio), son Richard Warren Summers (Dayton, Ohio), grandchildren Trey Summers, Carina Summers, Caleb Hunnicutt, Nathan Hunnicutt, Dasha Hunnicutt, and Mia Hunnicutt. He was preceded in death by father Ruel Summers and sister Virgina Summers.
At this time, Richard has requested not to have a funeral and to remember him with all the positive joys he had with others, and possibly celebrating his life later. He also requested to be cremated and to one day be buried side by side with his wife for all eternity. Our family appreciates all the kindness our friends and family have shown us in this difficult time.
