Richard M. Schissel, affectionately known as "Pops," passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Lenexa, Kansas. Born on November 1, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, Richard lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and service.
He proudly served his country in the Navy, a testament to his commitment and sense of duty. Throughout his life, Richard was cherished by family and friends alike for his unwavering support and kindness.
Richard loved to dance. He won many awards and dance competitions. He loved to travel via cruises all over the world. He was a best friend to many. Always smiling and always kind. He loved to play poker and play the lottery, always hoping he would win so his kids could retire. He loved jazz and was an avid sports fan. Even though he lived his final years in Kansas City, KS, he still remained a loyal Rams and Dodger fan.
Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tobi Schissel; his brother, Syd Schissel; his parents, Rudy and Cissie Schissel; his stepmother, Ruth Schissel; brother-in-law Milt Greenblatt, his beloved niece, Denise Cronyeger; and his sister-in-law, Bea Schissel. Their memories remain a cherished part of his legacy.
He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Stacy Madmon-Riester, and her husband, Eric Riester; son Scott Schissel, along with his wife, Ryann Schissel; and his grandchildren, Noah Madmon, Jake Riester, and Samuel Schissel, each of whom meant the world to him. Also remembering him fondly are his sister-in-law Sandy Greenblatt, nieces Cheryl Bloxberg, Renee Souza, and Mindy Schissel, and Yelena Schissel, ex-wife.
Richard will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His presence brought comfort and joy to many, and his legacy of love and service will endure through those he held dear.
May Richard M. Schissel rest in peace, forever honored and remembered by the family and community blessed to have known him.
