Quentin Edward Keeling, 68, of Olathe, ascended into Heaven on May 10, 2025 surrounded by family.
Quentin was born June 21, 1956 to Edward and Alberta (Havlic) Keeling in Kansas City, Missouri. Quentin grew up in the Waldo area of Kansas City and graduated from Southwest High School in 1974. Quentin worked at Milgram’s Grocery Store as a young man and then worked at Union Pacific railroad as a Conductor for over 30 years until he retired in 2015. Quentin worked the route from KC to Marysville, Kansas where he made friends on both ends of the line. He kept in touch with his former co-workers and regularly attended the Old Farts Club breakfast at Big Biscuit.
Quentin met his wife Elizabeth on a blind date in 1993 at Mulvaney’s Bar in Waldo and soon realized that they each had found the love of their lives. They were married in Berryton, Kansas on January 7, 1995 and celebrated their 30th Anniversary this year. Quentin said that, besides his marriage, the greatest gift he ever received was when his daughter Abigail was born. He was so proud of his daughter and all that she has become. He excelled at being a wonderful father to Abby and the best husband to Elizabeth.
Quentin was a big, gentle man with the biggest heart. He loved his dogs, his one crazy cat, shooting, the blues, and old rock. He was well-known for barbecue, and friends came from far and wide to enjoy it at his yearly parties. A great-smelling smoke haze would settle over the entire neighborhood, and the food never failed to deliver. Quentin was a history buff, and if you needed to know a fact about the military, firearms, or war, he was the one to ask. He never saw a veteran he didn’t greet with a handshake and a hearty “thank you for your service.” He cheered on the Royals and Chiefs and never missed an episode of Skinwalker Ranch, Bigfoot Expedition, or Expedition X.
Quentin fought a long battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) for 20 months. He waged a hard and valiant battle, never giving up and always hoping a cure for all cancers would be found. He kept a positive attitude during his treatments and enjoyed teasing his nurses and employees at the Olathe Cancer Center.
Quentin is survived by his wife Elizabeth and his daughter Abby, sister Debbie (Harry) Geaghan, nephew Bryan (Deanna) Geaghan, niece Meghan Geaghan, sister-in-law Nancy Pressgrove, niece Cindy (Dave) Buchanan, and niece Chelsea (Nathan) Wilden. He is also survived by good friends and semi-adopted children. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, as well as several friends from his childhood and adulthood. He will be forever missed by Elizabeth and Abby.
