Peteros Melcato

Mr. Petros Handero was born in Boshocho, Hadiya, Ethiopia, to his father, Mr. Handero Melkato, and his mother, Mrs. Dutame Abo. He spent his childhood in Bobicho, where he attended the American Mission School and grew up. From an early age, he was known for his love of learning, his reverence for God, and his respect for serving others.

Later, he studied Medical Assistance at Wolaita Sodo and began his professional career in the healthcare field. He served communities in various regions of Ethiopia, including Shewa, Illubabor, and Kaffa, providing essential healthcare services. He was a dedicated and compassionate medical professional who worked tirelessly to save lives and care for the sick.

During his career, Mr. Petros served for many years as the head of clinics located on the Limmu coffee plantations in the Jimma area and in institutions associated with coffee and tea development. In these roles, he faithfully cared for countless employees and their families. After retiring from government service, he opened a private clinic in Jimma, where he continued serving his community with commitment and compassion.

Mr. Petros shared a marriage of love, mutual respect, and faith with Mrs. Tsehai Melesebo for 59 years. Together, they raised ten children, eight sons and two daughters. He made great sacrifices to ensure that his children received a quality education. His greatest dream was to see them succeed in life through education, and in many ways that dream became a reality.Beyond his immediate family, he also supported his brothers and other relatives in pursuing their education. Through his encouragement and assistance, many achieved academic success and higher education.

To his family, he was not only a father but also a teacher, counselor, mentor, and role model.Spiritually, Mr. Petros was devoted to God from an early age. He served as a preacher in many gospel gatherings and faithfully ministered as a church elder. Throughout his life, he actively served in various areas of church ministry. He loved the church, valued worship, and encouraged others to draw closer to God.

Mr. Petros Handero dedicated his life to serving his family, his community, and his Lord. The love, humility, faithfulness, sacrifice, and compassion he demonstrated left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. On September 8, 2026, in Kansas City, he peacefully went home to be with his Lord, just days before celebrating his 80th birthday. Although he is no longer with us physically, the legacy of faith, love, and service he leaves behind will live on forever in the lives of his children. (Matthew 25:23)
