Listen to Obituary

Myrna Ruth (Chilson) Davis was born January 18, 1938, near Harrison AR, during The Great Depression. She entered her heavenly home on June 25, 2026.

Myrna, was born at home in a log cabin, to Arthur Bernard and Elsie Chilson, on January 18, 1938.

She had a very humble upbringing. Her family lived in the country and grew the things they ate. Her father was a carpenter who was often away, building military barracks during WW II. Her mother gardened, canned food, sewed their clothes and made quilts. They raised chickens and other animals for additional food.

Myrna had an isolated childhood, since they lived far from town. She and her younger brother, Jack, loved playing in the woods and wading in the cool, clear Arkansas creeks.

When she was in 4th grade, her family moved to the German farming community of Jamestown, MO. She had cousins in this community to play with, Walter and Hilda Strein, and she loved this time of her life most of all.

She was able to be active in her small-town schools at Jamestown, playing women's basketball, working on the school's yearbook, and even becoming a cheerleader.

In 10th grade her family moved back to their home in Arkansas, where she attended Harrison High School, graduating there in 1957.

After high school, her family moved to Kansas City MO, where she met her husband Howard Allen Davis. They were married in 1958. They later had two daughters, Kristal Lynn (Davis)Thompson in 1959, and Barbara Jo (Davis) Hardie in 1962.

Myrna worked part-time as a bookkeeper, while raising a family. She worked for businesses like Thriftway, Gibson's, G-Disco, and Culligan, all located in Olathe KS.

In 2002, Myrna retired from being a full- time bookkeeper for Olathe Culligan. In retirement, she loved to sew, quilt and crochet. She made many quilts and blankets for her family members. She made clothes and costumes for people in her church. She gave all of herself to her church and family and helped in any way she could. She donated many vehicles to people in need and gave money to people she knew that were struggling.

Myrna lived a disciplined life and attended church her entire life, until she no longer was able to attend. She attended Faith Baptist Church, Olathe KS, and Olathe View Baptist Church, Olathe, KS. She was a true believer of Jesus Christ and lived out her faith. Her daughters have early memories of her reading her Bible every evening. She wore many Bibles completely out. She had a quiet faith and strong belief in God. Their is no doubt that she has now joined her friends and family members who have gone before, and that now she is with her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Earl Chilson, Albert Chilson, Art Chilson, Jack Chilson, and sister Doris (Chilson) Dayton. Also preceded in death ex-husband Howard Allen Davis, and close friends: Alice Bauer, Kathy Chadwick, Mary Elliott, and a beloved cousin, Hilda (Strein) Schoenthal.

Myrna is survived by: Daughter Kristal Lynn (Davis) Thompson and her husband James Thompson, Daughter Barbara Jo (Davis) Hardie and her husband Jan Hardie. Grand children: Max Fairlamb and wife Kate, and their son Jack, and grandson Robert Travis Baumgarten.

Elizabeth (Hardie) Ogden and husband Ryan, and their sons Lee, Isaac and Joshua, and grandson Luke Hardie.

Step-granddaughters: Elizabeth (Thompson) VanErem, and her children Ava, Ian, and Zoë, and step-granddaughter Mary Thompson.

Myrna could not stand the suffering of others. She supported many charities that give people a helping hand. In lieu of flowers, should you wish, donations may be made to Harvesters, who provide food for the needy, or Children's Mercy, who provide crucial medical care for children, regardless of the family's ability to pay.

We'd like to thank all of the staff and social workers of Villa St Francis, who have so lovingly cared for our mother. They went above and beyond in caring for our mother and being such good friends to her as well!
