Michael David Noland, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born on September 19, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Wilbur and Eleanor Noland, and grew up in Overland Park, Kansas.
Michael graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1964 and went on to attend the University of Kansas and Park College. He dedicated 46 years of his life to Owens Corning Fiberglas, where he was deeply respected not only for his commitment and reliability but also for his integrity and leadership. He served as a union steward for over 40 years and was a longtime historian for the organization, preserving its legacy for future generations.
Michael was the definition of a hardworking and selfless man. He showed up every day with a strong sense of responsibility, always putting his family first and working tirelessly to provide for them. His quiet strength, humility, and unwavering dedication were the foundation of the life he built and the love he gave.
Outside of work, Michael embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid runner and a passionate bowler, competing at a semi-professional level for over 40 years and achieving the rare accomplishment of three perfect 300 games. Yet, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as "Papa". He cherished every moment with them, whether playing, laughing, or cooking his famously delicious grilled hamburgers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Susan; his four children David (Anna) Noland, Stacey (Brian) Johnson, Danielle (Doug) Osborn, Kristen (Austin) Katzer; six grandchildren, Cory and Amanda Johnson, Emerson and Rhett Osborn, Hunter and Hayden Katzer; sister Marty Adrian; brother-in-law Donald (Sandy) Doebereiner, Mark (Jean) Doebereiner, Paul (Sue) Doebereiner; sister-in-law Judy (Al) Tripp, Barbara Doebereiner; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Donald and Mary Doebereiner, and brother-in-law Terry Doebereiner.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his selfless heart, and the steady, enduring love he gave to those around him. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled and the family he so deeply cherished.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Jemi Home Care and Brighton Hospice for their compassionate care.
Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
