Michael E. Barge, 76, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 10, 1949, in Memphis, TN. Michael built a life defined by devotion—to his work, his passions, and most of all, his family.

For 37 years, Michael worked for Universal Underwriters/Zurich as a distinguished Property & Casualty Commercial Underwriter. He was admired for his analytical skills, sharp intellect, and exceptional communication skills. His colleagues knew him as a man of unwavering integrity and loyalty. Michael took pride in doing things exceptionally well. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and cherished him.

Away from work, Michael embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid and highly skilled golfer, achieving three hole-in-ones throughout the years. He relished the strategy and camaraderie of fantasy football and enjoyed many nights with a cold beer, a bowl of peanuts, and a good game.

Family was the center of Michael’s world. He worked tirelessly to support his children, He took immense pride in his late son, Kevin Barge, celebrating Kevin’s achievements in baseball and his devotion to his own family. Michael adored his daughter-in-law, Felicia, and his grandchildren: Emma, Tyler, and Sydney Barge. He spoke often of their accomplishments, and the remarkable people they have become.

Michael held a special place in his heart for his stepdaughter, Samantha Penn, whom he loved and encouraged as his own. Despite her allegiance to KU—longtime rival of his favorite Kansas State University and his beloved Memphis State. He took great joy in her accomplishments, especially her hard-earned success in pharmacy school. He never missed an opportunity to boast about her achievements.

His daughter, Kelli Barge, had every opportunity to pursue her passion for showing and training horses and animal rescue. He even sold his cherished motorcycle to help make it possible. He was very proud of her hard work ethic. Always asking her “how many dogs are you bringing with you?” when she visited back home.

For 34 years, Michael shared his life with his wife, Lisa Barge. His best friend, partner, and the love of his life. Together they enjoyed golf, raised a blended and loving family, and built lasting memories with friends.

Michael was known for his strong opinions, colorful vocabulary, and fierce loyalty. Beneath his tough exterior was a generous heart and a deep love for animals. His childhood dog, Laddy, accompanied him on his newspaper routes, and he later cherished Lacy, whom he proudly called the smartest dog he ever had. Most recently, his loyal companion Remy remained faithfully by his side.

Michael is survived by his wife, Lisa Barge; his stepdaughter, Samantha Penn(Tom Bendell); daughter, Kelli Barge(Travis Horchem); his daughter-in-law Felicia Barge; his grandchildren, Emma, Tyler, Sydney Barge and Benjamin Bendell; brother William Barge(KC); and 3 nephews, Alex Barge, Matthew and Christopher Rose.
