Mary Lou Nelson

Mary Lou Nelson, age 75, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025. She was born on October 22, 1950, in Clay Center, Kansas, to John and Kathryn (Shafer) Baker.

Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished time spent with her family. She is survived by her children, Travis Kier (Misty) and Julie Kier Carter (Kevin); her brothers, John, Charles, David, and Dan Baker; her sister, Ruth Ann Fischer; her grandchildren, Logan and Hunter Kier, Zoe Carter Roach, Emma Carter Skidmore, and Ian Carter; and her great-grandchildren, Liam, Cooper, and Maxwell Roach, Sylas Skidmore, and Braxton and Weston Kier.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Kathryn Baker, and her beloved husband, Mike Nelson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Augustine Parish in Washington, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mary’s honor to St. Luke’s Hospice House, 3516 Summit Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
