Listen to Obituary

Mark G. Murfield, graduated to heaven to rejoice with our Lord on July 22, 2025, at the age of 72, in Olathe, Kansas. Born on January 2, 1953, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Kermit and Arla (Bakke) Murfield.

Mark developed a strong work ethic at a young age through his hard work on their family farm in Nunda, South Dakota. He cherished his relationships with his 7 siblings.

Mark spent his young adult life sharing the gospel through his actions and love for music. From his work with youth to making connections through the career class at Colonial Presbyterian Church, he was a man who shined the light of Jesus. He boldly followed the call to missions and began a connection with Colegio Mark, in Cantel, Guatemala. He always gave the glory to God for his decades of work in Guatemala.

His professional career as an engineer was marked by 30 years of service to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Through his years of service, Mark showed dedication and discipline to his profession.

Mark was known for being a treasured husband to his wife, Glenda. They shared 28 years together. They enjoyed traveling to the beach, watching their sports teams, and most of all being each other’s companions through everyday life.

For many years, Mark passionately served in the Men’s Ministry at Heartland Community Church. He desired for men to connect deeper to the Word and build heartfelt relationships with one another. He loved fulfilling this desire through the small groups he lead or attended.

Mark was a loving father to his two children, Brendan and Alyssa. He was always up for having fun and teaching them life lessons. In his later years, he gained one of his favorite titles as “Papa”. He was a playful and doting Papa to his 3 grandkids, Tristan, Linnea and Henrik.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Mark at Heartland Community Church, located at 12175 South Strang Line Road, Olathe, Kansas, on July 28, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM. This gathering will serve as a heartfelt moment for family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Mark’s caring and joyful spirit.

As we celebrate the life of Mark G. Murfield, let us not just remember his accomplishments, but remembering the life he lived for the Lord. His willingness and commitment to the calls God placed on his life. His legacy of loving one another, humility, and connection will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have known him.
