In Loving Memory of Maritha Chansaviang Olmedo
Maritha Chansaviang Olmedo, age 76, of Olathe, Kansas passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on May 31, 2022 after a five-year battle with cancer.
Maritha was born on February 15, 1946 in Attapeu, Laos to parents, Phen and Phu Thong Chanthavong. After graduating high school, Maritha married Khampanh Chansaviang in 1964 and together welcomed their three children, Jack in 1969, Marie in 1972 and Shari in 1974. The family immigrated to the United States to begin a new life after the Communist party took over in 1975. They landed in Carbondale, Illinois, but shortly after settled in Kansas City, Missouri. Khampanh preceded her in death in 1999. She married Robert Olmedo in 2012 and they made their home in Olathe, KS. Maritha was a devoted and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Robert, her three children, Jack, Marie, and Shari, and her five grandchildren, Brittney, Jesse, Blake, Emma and Lauren.
Maritha was passionate about gardening and as she was filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found tending to her homegrown vegetables and herbs, grown with love. We will miss her greatly.
Services for Maritha will be held at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funeral & Receptions, 14275 S. Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS 66062 on Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm. Reception following will be held at Lao American Baptist Church, 9237 Noland Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.
