Lyle Dean Barber, born on July 22, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas, passed away on June 12, 2026, in Lenexa, Kansas. He lived a life distinguished by his unwavering dedication to aviation and his service in the Air Force, embodying a spirit of commitment and passion that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Throughout his career, Lyle devoted himself to aviation, a calling that shaped much of his life's work and identity. His expertise and love for flight were not just a profession but a profound part of who he was. Beyond his professional pursuits, Lyle found joy and comfort in the simple pleasures of life—his beloved Harley motorcycle, the faithful companionship of his dog Buddy, and the timeless stories found in old western movies.
Lyle’s proudest accomplishments were his grandchildren, a legacy of love and family that brought him immense joy. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sons Garret Barber, his wife Amanda and Weston Barber, and Brant Barber. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Alexander Bright and his wife Kailyn, Molly Barber, and Elliot Barber, and extends to his great-grandson Archer Lee Barber.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Janice Powers and Marilyn Wadman, whose memories he cherished deeply.
Family, friends, and all who admired Lyle are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life at a visitation service to be held on June 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, located at 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, Kansas 66062. A graveside service will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe, KS.
