Lourdes Diana Luna

Lourdes Diana Luna, 94, passed away in Overland Park, KS on March 3, 2026.

Born in Cora Cora, Peru, she was the daughter of Mariano Velarde and Nacaria Espinosa de Velarde. She grew up with her siblings: Juan Velarde (deceased), Alfredo Alarcon (deceased), Celestino Guadamur and Gladys Castro.

Lourdes grew up in the farm life in Cora Cora and in Lima, Peru. She met her future husband, Guillermo Luna, in Lima as children playing in the neighborhood.

Lourdes and Guillermo were married on June 10, 1956. Together, they worked at Radio Union as radio announcers broadcasting news and music. At this time, they had three children. Guillermo would realize his dream of living in the United States through a friend's sponsorship and immigrated to Kansas City, MO. There he established himself in order to bring his wife and children to the US.

In Kansas City, they had 4 more children. Lourdes was a devoted mother and started a real estate rental business. Eventually the Lunas would move to Overland Park, KS and expand their property ownership. In 2000 they became US Citizens.

Lourdes loved cooking for her family and as a hobby was a singer/songwriter of traditional Peruvian music. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved her family deeply. She also enjoyed road trips and listening to her favorite music.

Guillermo passed away on March 15th of 2022, marking 65 years of marriage together.

Lourdes is survived by her brother, Celestino Guadamur; her sister, Gladys Castro; and her children: Rosie Umphenour, Guillermo E. Luna, Jr. Javier J. Luna (deceased), Jose L. Luna, Alberto A. Luna, Pilar P. Thompson and Isabel "Diana" Luna Camden and her grandchildren Veronica Smith, Michael Fugitt and Zachary Fugitt.

Mass will follow visitation at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS with burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
