Lois “Barb” Werner, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 17, 2026, after a life devoted to public service, community, and those she loved most.
Barb spent the majority of her adult life in the close-knit community of Gove KS, where she became a familiar and trusted presence to generations of residents. She dedicated many years to serving Gove County as the county dispatcher. Her commitment to fairness, integrity, and public service later led her to serve as a magistrate judge, a role she fulfilled with compassion and wisdom until her retirement in 2014.
Barb built lasting friendships throughout the community she proudly called home. She valued family above all else and found great joy in supporting and staying connected with those she loved.
In her later years, Barb moved to the Kansas City area to be closer to family, where she treasured time spent with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Barb was preceded in death by her father, Max; her mother, Beula; her sister, Vel; and her son, Stephen.
Barb’s legacy lives on through her family, friends, and the many lives she touched through decades of service to her community.
She is survived by her sister, Pam; her son, Jay and his wife Michelle; her son, Chris and his wife Shannon; her grandchildren, Kory (Kacie), Madison, Storm (Alexis), Koby (Kamri), and Dylan; and her great-grandchildren, Mattix, Hudson, Moxlie, Sutton, and Tatum.
A private graveside service will be held at the Gove Cemetery at a later date.
