Lawrence Elliott Jones

Lawrence Elliott Jones, 87, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Larry attended William Chrisman High School, and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Air Force. He and Janet met while he was stationed in England and were married on March 21st, 1964. Larry was a volunteer with youth sports in the Johnson County area from 1971 thru 2020 including 8-11 Baseball, Great American Basketball League, 3&2 Baseball Club of Johnson County, and the Johnson County Football and Cheerleading Club. He was an entrepreneur, starting up a sporting goods store (Shortstop Sports), teacher (computer and business classes at Avila University), and served as the CEO/President of Goodwill Industries in Kansas City.

Above all, Larry was a devoted husband and strong family man. He supported his children in their endeavors and encouraged them to chase their dreams and goals.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Jones.

He is survived by his four children, Sherry Vore, Scott (Kacey) Jones, Michael (Jude) Jones, and Clark (Deanna) Jones; as well as his ten grandchildren, Jake (Allie) Vore, Marissa (Jonny) Vore, TJ Vore, Espen Donaldson, Barrett Donaldson, Jack Jones, Alexandra Jones, Luke Jones, Cannon Jones, and Jaydy Jones; and his two great-grandchildren, Lincoln Vore and Thea Vore.

The family will receive guests for a visitation on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 1:00-2:00pm at Penwell-Gabel's Olathe Chapel, with a Memorial Service following at 2:00pm.
