LaVon Helen Sutter

LaVon Sutter, 95, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at Sage Grove Assisted Living Facility, surrounded by her three loving daughters.

LaVon was born on November 11, 1930, in Clay Center, Kansas, to Herman and Frederica Doberer. While attending high school in Clay Center, she met her future husband, Duane, while working at a local ice cream shop. The two were married on June 5, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church in Clay Center.

LaVon and Duane lived on a farm near Dwight, Kansas, where they raised their three daughters, Connie, Jolene, and Vickie, before moving to Junction City. LaVon worked several different jobs throughout her life before joining her husband at their business, Bowles and Chase Plumbing. Later, she worked at Walmart for 30 years as a store greeter. LaVon always said how much she enjoyed meeting and greeting people, and her warm personality made her a favorite among those she met.

Throughout the years, LaVon enjoyed square dancing, playing pitch, bowling, and attending the activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. Family was always her top priority. She was a wonderful mother with a great sense of humor and a loving heart.

LaVon was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Duane Sutter; her brother, Lyle Doberer; sons-in-law William Matthews and Arnold Schlossberg; and her beloved dog, Daisy.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Steve) Tiesing, Jolene Schlossberg, and Vickie (David) Taylor; grandchildren Bill, Arika, Beth, Brandi, Candice, Brandon, and Lisa; and 12 great-grandchildren.

LaVon will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas, with a graveside service.
