“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” – Winnie the Pooh
Kimberly Kaye Dawald, a cherished soul known for her kindness, caring heart, and magnetic personality, passed away on December 13, 2024, leaving behind a loving family and an ever-growing circle of friends. In her 54 years, Kim lived a life full of love, laughter, and selfless service to others.
Kim was born on July 3, 1970, to Judy Fast and Steve Nicoson in Omaha, NE. She spent much of her childhood in Urbandale, IA, where she graduated from Urbandale High School in 1988. Kim went on to study at both Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned a degree in Human Resources. It was at UNI in the summer of 1990 that Kim met Scott Dawald, the love of her life and her perfect match. They were married on October 23, 1993, and began their married life in Denver, CO. In 1995, they relocated to the Kansas City area, settling in Olathe, KS, where they raised their two beloved children, Graham (born October 22, 1998) and Anna (born October 1, 2002).
Kim’s career in human resources was marked by her deep empathy and passion for helping others. She dedicated 25 years to public service, working for the City of Lenexa and the City of Shawnee, always striving to make a difference in the lives of those she served.
A lover of adventure, Kim relished trips with family and friends, especially those involving mountains, waterfalls, hikes, and water. She also had a deep appreciation for live music, always ready to dance and sing along at a concert. Kim’s heart extended far beyond her family. She spent countless hours volunteering in her community, at her children's schools, and with various organizations, where she became a pillar of support for many.
Kim's love for others was unconditional. She was fiercely loyal, a devoted cheerleader, and a trusted confidante. Her words and actions inspired those around her to be better, to love more deeply, and to live fully. Kim’s life was a testament to how to love deeply and live authentically.
Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Judy Fast. She is survived by her husband, Scott; her children, Graham and Anna; her father, Steve; her brother, Chris; and a large extended family and a devoted circle of friends.
