Kenneth William Bechtel

Kenneth William Bechtel, son of Kenneth C. and Kathryn Bechtel, was born on October 7, 1948, in McPherson, Kansas. Ken attended the McPherson Public Schools, graduating from McPherson High School in 1966. He married his wife Kay (Kittell) on June 16, 1968. They were married for 55 years. He passed away at The Heritage of Overland Park on Sunday, June 10th, 2024, at 3:03am, at the age of 75, losing his battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Gene. Survivors include his wife Kay, his daughter Kyra (Chris), his son Kevin (Kym), his grandson James, and his sister Muriel Embers.

Ken attended McPherson College and Emporia State University, earning his Bachelor's Degree, and Kansas State University, earning his Master's Degree. He was employed for twenty-six years by the Federal Highway Administration and for eight years at HNTB as an Environmental Specialist. He retired in 2009. Ken had a keen sense of humor, his laughter infectious to those around him. He enjoyed playing recreational tennis with his many friends at Round Hill Tennis Club, and playing competitive tennis, taking part in USTA National Seniors Doubles and Mixed Doubles tournaments. He was an avid reader enjoying all genres and a dedicated baseball card collector.

As per Ken's wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. His ashes will be spread in the Flint Hills.
