Kathy Jane Halterman, 74, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026. She was born on August 14, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Chester and Norma (Shields) Bolen.
Kathy grew up in Edgerton, Kansas, and graduated from Gardner High School in 1969. She was an avid softball player throughout her childhood. Softball was truly a family sport, as she often played alongside her sisters and was coached by her parents.
After joyfully raising her children, Kathy became a Pharmacy Technician in 1990 and worked in the field for many years. Later in life, she volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program in Johnson County, Kansas. Kathy found great joy in helping others and also served in the kitchen, preparing meals for those in need.
Kathy’s life included two loving marriages. She was first married to Geoffrey Collins, with whom she had four children: Lori, Kevin, Kelly, and Amy, all dearly loved by both parents. In 1995, Kathy married her second husband, David Halterman, and welcomed his children, Kari, Eli, and Danielle, into her life as her stepchildren. Kathy and David shared many happy years together and enjoyed attending and following the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
For the past ten years, Kathy lived in Mission, Texas, where she spent her time with her companion, Ronald Swederski, and remained close to her sisters. As her health declined, Kathy made the difficult decision to return to her home area in Kansas, where she was able to spend her final months surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her children: Lori Pett (Michael), Kevin Collins, Kelly Caprefoli (Thomas), and Amy Davis (Benjamin); stepchildren: Kari Kelley (Brian), Eli Halterman (Brandi), and Danielle Halterman; sisters: Jacqueline Thomas (Kenneth), Susan Locke, Judy Lamb, and Karla Johnston (Eric); 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Norma Bolen; her brother-in-law, Ralph Locke; and her loving husband, David Halterman.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00–8:00 p.m., with a service at 5:00 p.m., on Friday, January 9, 2026, at American Legion Post 153, 410 E. Dennis Ave., Olathe, KS 66061.
