Listen to Obituary

Our angel, Katherine A. Dunski, age 96, of Overland Park, KS, received her wings on August 2, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1929, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Joseph and Mary (Rupcic) Serdar. Known lovingly as Mom, Katie, Gram, and Kay, she lived life fully until the very end. She taught us countless lessons we will carry with us forever—lessons of love, strength, humor, encouragement, and the importance of being there for one another. Kay spent much of her career working for DuPont in Waukegan, Illinois, where she served as facility director and wore many hats. One of her most significant professional accomplishments was overseeing the closure and relocation of the Waukegan facility to Wilmington, DE. In her later years, she enjoyed 12 wonderful years of independent living in Crozet, VA, and Overland Park, KS. Her outgoing personality, quick wit, and warm heart made her a favorite among staff and residents alike. She made many dear friends, and those who knew her often shared how special she was to them.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary, her brother Frank Serdar and his wife Ann, sister-in-law Rose Serdar, sister-in-law Ann Sedar and her husband Phil Sedar, and nephew Steve Sedar.

Our hearts are warmed that “Katie” is reunited with her beloved husband of fifty years, Wes Dunski.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Donna) Dunski, and her daughter, Lynn (Tim) O’Donnell. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Sara (John) Perugini, Kelly O’Donnell, Laurie (James) Kalyvas, Timmy (Lindsay) O’Donnell, Taylor (Cole) Stewart, as well as her ten “perfect little angels,” great-grandchildren: Jack, Isla, Eastyn, Macyn, Rowan, Tripp, Wyatt, Liam, Brody, and Marley, Other survivors include her brother, Dan Serdar, and many beloved nieces and nephews. You will forever be in our hearts. Whenever we think of you, we will laugh, smile, and give thanks that you were part of our lives.
