Karen Mae Thomasson

Karen Mae Thomasson, née Rasmussen, passed away on September 4, 2026, in Olathe, Kansas. She was born on March 10, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, and lived a long life centered on family.

She was an avid reader and had a wonderful eye for decorating.  She loved shopping and creating a beautiful home and most of all spending time with her family.  She grew up swimming and carried that love of the water throughout her life.  One of her greatest joys was teaching her grandchildren how to swim.  

Karen will be remembered with love by those closest to her. She is survived by her son, Steven Thomasson, and his wife, Vella; her daughter, Rebecca Leseberg, and her husband, Jay; and her daughter, Tricia May, and her husband, John and son-in-law Gerald Neitenbach. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Amanda Thomasson, Matthew Leseberg, Nicholas Leseberg, Jacob Leseberg, Noah Leseberg, Maggey May, Caleb Neitenbach, Liliana Leseberg, and Layla Leseberg. Their lives stand as part of the lasting legacy of her love and devotion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomasson; her sons, Kevin Thomasson and Michael Thomasson; and her daughter, Suzanne Neitenbach. Their memories remained an enduring part of her family’s story and of the life she shared with those she loved most.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on September 9, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, Kansas. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place afterward at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas.

Karen will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, and wife whose life was deeply woven into the lives of her family. May her memory bring comfort and peace to all who knew and loved her.
