John was born in Lawrence KS to parents John W and Ethel Herrington (Moody). John moved to Olathe with his family when he started first grade and remained an Olathe resident for the remainder of his life.

John graduated from Olathe North High School in 1967 and earned an Associated Degree in Data Processing from Johnson County Community College. As a Senior Systems Programmer John worked for several large data processing firms during his career including Johnson County Kansas, the KCMO school district, DST, Blue Cross Blue Shield of KC and TWA. Later he worked for the IRS and AIG insurance company.

During the time his son was active in Boy Scouts, John acted as an assistant scout leader, taking part in several hikes, camp outs and multiple summer camps. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and an Honorary Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

John enjoyed camping, fishing, photography, model railroading but most of all spending time with family.

John and wife Karen married February 1, 1991, making their home in Olathe.

John was preceded in death by his parents and son John Randal. He is survived by wife Karen of the home, stepfather Orville (Bob) Moody and wife Gerry, daughter Amanda Stratman, husband Chris, stepson Patrick and wife Jenny, stepdaughter Leslee and husband Eric. He is also survived by the “bestest” nine grandchildren ever: Estes, Anderson, Olivia, Hayden, Stella, Maggie, Marlee, Ava and Theo.

John’s request is that any monetary donations you might want to spend on flowers, etc., please use the money to take your family out and enjoy life.
