John Vernon Cooper was born August 11, 1947, in Buckner, Missouri to Vernon Harold and Evelyn L. (Harra) Cooper.


John grew up in Buckner and graduated from Fort Osage High School. He joined the Army in February of 1965. While in the Army, John earned several medals and was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired in February of 1991 as a Sergeant Major (E-9).


After retiring from the military, John worked in security positions in the Kansas City area.


John was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.


Due to multiple health issues, John passed away on March 19, 2019.


A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Monday, April 8, 2019, at the American Legion, 410 E. Dennis Avenue, Olathe, KS 66061. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Legion Post 153 Honor Guard.
