Joan Mabel (Rhodes) Burnham passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, in Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 91. Born on November 30, 1934, in Edison, Nebraska, Joan’s life was marked by her dedication to family, her remarkable talents, and her deep generosity of spirit.
Joan’s journey began in small-town Nebraska, where she grew up learning the values of kindness, perseverance, and hard work. Throughout her life, she honored these principles, becoming a beloved presence in every community she called home.
Family meant everything to Joan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Burnham, with whom she shared many cherished years. Together, they raised a loving family, a legacy that brought Joan her greatest pride: her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her devoted children, Judith Banks, Steven Burnham, Anita Olsson, and Carol Garrison. Her dedication to her family and the church was her greatest fulfillment. Joan’s nurturing nature and steadfast support shaped the lives of all who loved her, and her memory will be treasured by her family for generations.
Beyond her role as a dedicated wife and mother, Joan was a woman of many gifts. Her love of music shone through her piano playing, which brought comfort and delight to her family and friends. She also possessed remarkable skill in sewing and quilting, creating beautiful pieces that became cherished family heirlooms. Her creativity and attention to detail were evident in every note played and every stitch sewn.
Joan’s warmth, integrity, and compassion touched all who had the privilege to know her. Whether hosting family gatherings or quietly offering a kind word, she leaves behind a legacy of love and heartfelt memories.
A visitation will be held on July 6, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at College Church - Garrett Chapel, 2020 East Sheridan Street, Olathe, Kansas. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring Joan’s remarkable life and the many ways she enriched those around her.
Joan M. Burnham’s legacy endures in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her. Her gentle spirit, creative talents, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts she touched.
