Jimmie “Jim” Ray Newman, 79, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1946, in Franklin, Tennessee, to Clyde and Clementine (Vandiver) Newman.

At the age of 17, Jim proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Library Science and a master’s degree in Special Education from Pittsburg State University. Jim dedicated many years of his career as both a librarian and a special education teacher.

He later settled in Nevada, Missouri, where he raised his family and retired from the Nevada Habilitation Center. In 2021, he moved to Kansas to be closer to his children. Jim had a lifelong love of reading and poetry, as well as a passion for growing bonsai trees and caring for animals.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, John Beasley and David Beasley.

He is survived by his sons, Joel Newman and Joshua Newman, and his stepdaughter, Caedran (Doug) Peete. He also leaves behind three beloved grandchildren—Piper, Brooks, and Jace—who brought him great joy.

Jim will be remembered for his gentle spirit, curiosity, and deep love for his family.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
