Jean Ann Gish, 89, of Overland Park, KS entered into her Savior’s presence Thursday, March 26th, 2026 at Westchester Village of Lenexa, KS.
Jean was born January 8th, 1937 in Axtell, KS to Vincent and Marcella (Wempe) Lierz. She grew up on a farm west of Centralia, KS and graduated from Centralia High School. Upon graduation she moved to Topeka, KS where she worked for Southwestern Bell. It was in Topeka that she met the love of her life, John Patrick Gish, and their legacy began. They were married April 4th, 1959 in Baileyville, KS.
Four children were born of this union: Stacey (Rob) McCully, Kansas City, MO, Kristi (Ronnie) Sextro, Horton, KS, Dr. Steven (Connie) Gish, Overland park, KS, and Marci (Jon) France, Olathe, KS.
After settling into married life in St. Joseph, MO for a short time, they returned to Topeka, KS, where Pat would start managing his grocery store and Jean would raise their children. Eventually they made their way to Horton, KS where Pat would build and manage his own grocery store. They, in time, purchased a small building next to the grocery store. It became the Horton Dairy Inn and Jean Ann would manage that business.
Jean Ann was a member of the St. Leo’s Catholic Church, where she taught catechism classes, was a member of the Altar Society and a member of the church choir. She was a member of the Woman’s Division of the Horton Chamber of Commerce and was recognized for her many contributions to that group. She was also a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Philanthropic Sorority. In her own personal way, Jean Ann blessed many with her Christmas trays full of homemade candies and cookies, “Grandma’s Good Bread”, and her famous cinnamon rolls which were loved by all!
Jean Ann is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, David (Jacque) Lierz of Houston, TX, a sister-in-law, Ora Lee Gish of Topeka, KS and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pat, and great-granddaughter, Landry Sextro.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, April 1st, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leawood, KS. Visitation and rosary will begin at 10am with service at 11am. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS.
In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Parish.
