Janice Bauer

March 18, 1951 — May 4, 2025

Spring Hill

Janice Bauer, 74, of Spring Hill, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 4, 2025. She was born on March 18, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas to Merlyn and Bonnie Tooley.

Jan grew up in Shawnee, Kansas with her two brothers, David and Dennis, with a love for the outdoors, playing guitar, and singing. She met the love of her life, Karl Bauer, in the spring of 1969 on a blind date arranged by her best friend Mary Clay. They fell in love, got married. They started a family in 1972 and had two children. Due to both of their careers at IBM they moved several times around the country. Jan was a voracious reader which led to her interest in travel, specifically the desert southwest.

Jan was very creative and expressed that creativity through various forms of art, such as photography, Oil Painting, Stained Glass, Scrap booking. Many hours were spent scrap booking with her best friends Mary, Carol, and Donna where their countless adventures with family and friends were brought to life.

Jan was very determined and tough. She would not even let a rib-breaking fall stop her from going on the Colorado River raft trip she always wanted to do. She enjoyed hiking and exploring the outdoors.

Jan had such a big heart, from raising her kids and loving her husband of 55 years, to rescuing dogs and being there for others that she made everyone feel like family. She is survived by her husband, Karl Bauer, children, Brian (Jennifer) Bauer of North Carolina and Julie Bauer of Kansas, her brother, David (Patty) Tooley of Pennsylvania, her dogs Sierra and Shelby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merlyn and Bonnie Tooley, and her brother Dennis Tooley.

In keeping with Jan's wishes, the family will have a private Celebration of Life. This will be held Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the family residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Janice’s memory be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab UT or Pyr Paws and Fluffy Tails Rescue in McAlester, OK.
