Jane Catherine (Hurley) Carpenter

January 24, 1932 — November 13, 2022

Jane Catherine Hurley Carpenter passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 13, 2022. Jane was born January 24, 1932, to her parents John Emmett Hurley and Clara Brock Hurley, in Sedalia, MO. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Clara, her brother, John Emmett Hurley, and her husband of 60 years, Carl Kenneth "Ken" Carpenter. She is survived by her daughters Anne (Jack) Scoville, Michele Carpenter, and grandsons Brock and Blake Scoville.

Jane had wonderful memories of her time growing up in Sedalia and loved remaining in touch with family and friends from there. She moved to St. Louis to attend Maryville University and after living and working in the St. Louis area, Jane returned to Sedalia in 1954 where she was employed at Whiteman Air Force Base. Fate intervened when Jane met her future husband, Ken, a pilot who was stationed at Whiteman. After completing his military career as a Major, Ken and Jane were married in 1960.

In the following years, their marriage was blessed with the birth of their two daughters, Anne Brock and Michele Marie. Being a mother and grandmother brought great joy to Jane's life. Family was at the heart of who she was. During her life she spent many years enjoying the activities of her daughters, and then later in life, those of her grandsons. She was very proud of her grandsons and the fine young men they have become.

Following her retirement from the business world, Jane and Ken enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally. One place they visited often was Ireland. Being Irish meant a lot to Jane and a particular trip that was a highlight was a family trip there.

Getting to spend over 30 years visiting their summer cottage at the Lake of the Ozarks with their daughters, son-in-law, and beloved grandsons was one of their greatest joys.

Jane's legacies are her love and devotion to her family, her Catholic faith, and her Irish heritage.

In lieu of flowers, Jane's request is that contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Wayside Waifs, or a charity of choice. Jane also loved random acts of kindness.
