It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jan Hupp Sortore, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dear friend. Jan passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on November 13th, 1949, in Ottawa, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of the late George and Nada Hupp.

Jan life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. On February 3rd, 1973, she married the love of her life, Dave Sortore, with whom she shared 53 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with two daughters, Jennifer and Melissa Sortore, who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. Jan was also a proud and loving grandmother to four grandchildren and 2 great grand children, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

A graduate of William Woods University, Jan dedicated her life to being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Her talents were many; she was an accomplished seamstress, a gifted baker and cook, and held a deep passion for gardening. Her famous rolls, which earned her a blue ribbon at the state fair, were a highlight at the local farmers market, where she connected with many through her culinary creations.

Jan was a woman of many interests and skills. She was a licensed insurance agent, an equestrian enthusiast, and an avid dog lover. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her family to the community, as she actively participated in organizations such as Young Matrons and the Daughters of the American Revolution. A devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Jan served on various church volunteer groups, offering her time and talents to those in need. She was a passionate Pro Life activist and acted as a volunteer counselor at Crisis Pregnancy Center.

Her spirit will be celebrated at a service on July 15th, 2026, at Bethany Lutheran Church. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor Jan’s life and the indelible mark she left on everyone who was fortunate enough to know her.

Her legacy of love, generosity, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
