James O. McKenna was born September 4, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away on March 28, 2026. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie, and his father, Bernard Sr., as well as two brothers, Bernard, Jr. and Eugene, a sister, Patricia, and two daughters, Teresa and Denise.
He is survived by his wife, Marty, two daughters, Kathleen (Lonnie) and Pamela, as well as Marty’s three daughters, Shawn, Linda (Rick), and Erin, and her son, Jerry (Ellen), as well as 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He attended Rosary Catholic School and Classen High School in Oklahoma City and graduated from Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, MO. Jim attended Marquette University and Tulsa University.
In 1950 he entered the Motion Picture Industry as a concession employee and served in the industry for 55 years with the exception of two years serving in Sendai, Japan during the Korean War as a member of the US Army Counter Intelligence Service. He retired in 2004 as President of Mega Star Cinema LLC.
The Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 14251 Nall Avenue, Leawood, KS 67223 with Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the funeral in the parish hall. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Vitas Hospice, 8527 Bluejacket, Lenexa, KS 66214.
