James (Jim) M. Wink, 79, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025. Jim was born November 28,1945 in Morrison, Missouri to Herb and Vicki Wink. He lived most of his early life in Butler, Missouri where he graduated from Butler High School in 1963. Following high school, he went to the University of Missouri and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a Master’s in Education Administration. It was at the University of Missouri where he met his future wife, Joyce. After graduation they got married and moved to Overland Park where they lived out their life.
In 1969, Jim started his career in education for the Shawnee Mission School District. He continued to serve the district for 46 years until his retirement from Indian Woods Middle School in 2015. There is a gymnasium at Indian Woods named after him for his dedication to the district as a teacher, coach, principal, leader, mentor, and friend. After retiring he enjoyed being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce, his parents, and his sister Mary Ann Beckelhimer. He is survived by his daughter Kristie (Rich) Ellis of Pittsburg, Kansas, his son Bryan (Marci) Wink of Olathe, Kansas, and grandchildren Tanner (Yerse) Ellis, Karlie Ellis, Abigail Wink and Cooper Wink.
