Jacob Neal Simpson, 34, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Jake was born on December 18, 1991, in Olathe, Kansas, to Bradford and Marilyn (Moore) Simpson. He was raised in Overland Park, where he attended Blue Valley Schools.
Jake loved learning. A voracious reader, he devoured anything he could get his hands on, always eager to explore new ideas. He especially enjoyed discussing what he discovered, whether it was books, movies, music, religion, or politics, he took genuine pleasure in exchanging ideas with others.
It was the shared love of books that led him to his wife, Samantha, whom he met in high school while they were working together on the school’s literary magazine. Their friendship grew into a relationship, and together they built a life filled with laughter, stories, movies, and quiet moments together. They were married on June 3, 2018, in a small ceremony at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, surrounded by close family, a day that reflected the love they shared.
Jake had a true passion for food and loved experimenting in the kitchen and sharing recipes with others. He carried that passion into his work at local restaurants and clubs, most recently as a valued and dedicated member of the team at Lake Quivira Country Club. He also took pride in starting BlueFin Pool Services with his father, Brad, combining his strong work ethic with the joy of working alongside his father.
Family truly meant everything to Jake. He treasured time spent with those he loved gathering around the table, swapping stories, quoting favorite movies, or simply enjoying each other’s presence. His warmth, quick wit, and infectious laugh made others feel instantly at ease, and his easygoing nature drew people to him.
Jake is survived by his wife, Samantha Hallak, his parents, Bradford and Marilyn Simpson, his siblings, Whitney Simpson, Shane and Brittany Simpson, and Jaclyn Simpson, and his nieces and nephew, Lexi Greathouse, Jack Simpson and Lila Backman, his in-laws Steve and Valerie Hallak, Sidney and Austin Backman, his uncle Mike Mills, and his aunts Krista Simpson, Susan Simpson and Amy Edwards, and his best friend since childhood, Michael Moser. He also leaves behind many cousins and other extended family members, dear friends, and colleagues who will deeply miss his kindness, his humor, and the way he made everyone feel at home.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Betty Moore, Richard Simpson, and Rees Spilman, his uncle and aunt, Tom and Mary Moore, and his aunt, Debbie Mills.
In honoring Jake’s life, the family encourages others to gather, share a meal, and hold close the people who matter most.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Eden Village KC or First Call KC.
