Hayden Christopher Doherty of Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, January 3rd in an automobile accident. He is survived by his father Eric (Nicole) Doherty, mother Kendall Doherty, brothers Brett Doherty and Jordan (Kelsey) Benjamin of Paola, step siblings Anthony and Olivia King, niece Kailor (8) and nephew Jenson (3) Benjamin, grandfather Dave (Gabby) Doherty of Overland Park, and countless aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Christyne Doherty of Overland Park.
As an infant Hayden attended preschool at The Goddard School until age 5 when he moved on to Ascension Catholic school where he spent his Kindergarten through Eighth grade years. This is where many of his lifelong friendships were formed.
Following middle school Hayden attended St Thomas Aquinas High School where as a freshman he played baseball. Hayden was a Junior this year. It was through Aquinas he found an afterschool job at Silvercrest Senior Living. Hayden enjoyed interacting with the residents and often had fun stories of conversations they shared. He also valued the friendships with young people who worked there with him.
Hayden was born January 22, 2009 and was the youngest of 3 boys. Though he was the smallest, he had the biggest, kindest heart and was naturally thoughtful of others. Always the first to help hold a door, hold a hand or give a hand to someone in need. He loved animals, was great with children, gentle to the elderly and his tender spirit will forever stay with all of us blessed to have known him.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, Donations can be sent to the school directly, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, 11411 Pflumm Road, Overland Park, KS 66210, for the Hayden Christopher Doherty Memorial Scholarship Fund.
